Look how pleased he was to hear the news!

Profile

It all started when I was 12 years old and the family drove past the Novotel, Plymouth, when I noticed a crowd of mostly senior citizens. I asked father what they were doing, and before I knew it I was stood there too. I thought I'd give these seniot citizens a pasting on my mountain bike with toe-clips, but was promptly dropped up Ridgeway :( I kept coming back for more (don't know why) and kept improving, until I could get to the Abbey (cafe stop) without being pushed......

I posted a 27:09 for my first '10' mile at 12 years old on the S3 course, and won my first crit at Westpoint (about 3 in the race). Every year as a youth (U16) my Dad would take me to the National Champs where I would rip the legs off everyone, chase down everything for everyone to pass me at the finish (Geraint Thomas won the sprint every time). The races didn't really suit me as they were flat and about 16kms.

Dad starting to get fed up of taking me to events for me not to get the results so I let him down again by posting a 26 min ride at the GHS, aged 14, finishing 43rd. The following year I got a custom made steel Woodrup TT bike. This made a lot of difference as I put in a 21:27 min '10' at the GHS qualifiers. The course for the final was used for the 2007 National '10' Champs with a lot of roundabouts. The weather was atrocious (heavy rain and gales) but it didn't matter as I did 22:36 behind Mark Cavendish and Adam Duggleby to collect the bronze medal and fastest 15 year old award.

To be continued.........
